Offline AI works when the application, the model, and the data you need are already on the device. Glyph runs local models without sending inference anywhere, so a laptop that was prepared while online keeps answering on a plane, in a client’s basement, or on a site with no coverage. The preparation is the whole trick.

Three things: the Glyph application, at least one model that fits the hardware, and the documents or knowledge base you expect to ask about. Each of them is downloaded or built while connected. A model that is “in your library” but never finished downloading, or a folder you meant to index, is the usual reason an offline session fails.
Verify the installer’s checksum from the download page when you install, then open the model at least once so the runtime has loaded it successfully and any vision projector or tokenizer files are confirmed present.
Which Glyph features work offline
Offline inference does not make every feature offline, and the table is honest about that. Anything whose purpose is to reach another system needs that system.

A preparation routine that works
Do the preparation as a rehearsal rather than a checklist. Install and verify Glyph. Download the model you intend to use and a smaller fallback. Add the folders you will need to the knowledge base and wait for indexing to finish. Then turn off Wi-Fi and run the real task — summarise the actual brief, draft the actual email — before you leave. The rehearsal catches missing files and shows you the speed you will get on battery.
If you use cloud models for some tasks day to day, note which ones. Offline, those tasks fall back to the local model; knowing that in advance avoids a surprise when the picker shows the cloud model greyed out.
Accounts, subscriptions, and updates
Local features do not need to phone home to run. Subscription refresh, software updates, and account sync happen when you are connected, and their absence for a trip does not stop local work. What you should test in advance is your own feature set: if a Pro feature matters to you offline, use it once during the rehearsal so any entitlement check has already succeeded on that device.
Managed and enrolled devices
A desktop enrolled with Glyph Private receives policy from the server. Offline, it continues on the last policy it received; the organisation decides how long that cached policy remains valid and which sensitive capabilities — a connector, a cloud destination — fail closed when the server cannot be reached. Test the exact device, model, policy, and expiry window before issuing laptops for field work, and document the behaviour you observed rather than the behaviour you assumed.
When offline becomes air-gapped
A laptop that is offline for a week is different from an environment that is never connected. The latter needs an offline supply chain for installers, models, licences, and certificates, plus internal replacements for identity, time, and logging. Does Glyph need to check a licence online before it will run offline?
Local features run without a connection. Use the features you rely on once while connected during preparation so any subscription state is already present on the device, then verify offline in a rehearsal.
Can I use my phone with the desktop offline?
GlyphNet pairing works over a local network. If both devices are on the same Wi-Fi or a travel router, the phone can use the desktop’s models without internet access.
Will the knowledge base answer from documents I add while offline?
Yes. Parsing and embedding run on the device, so new documents can be indexed offline; it just takes longer on battery-constrained hardware.
